With Cosmetic Surgery On The Rise – Entrepreneurs Leverage “Brazilian Butt-Lifts”

More and more of us are making the decision to change the way we look.

If you’re not happy, you can change everything from your muscle definition and the shape of your nose to your breast size and even how much fat you’re carrying. Surgeons and cosmetic specialists are continuously coming up with new and innovative solutions to our body issue problems.

One cosmetic procedure that has gained a lot of popularity in recent years is butt augmentation.

Recent research in the USA showed that nearly 16 million cosmetic procedures were carried out in 2015. Since the turn of the century the number of us heading to the surgeon to change our looks has increased by over 100%. Buttock lifts have increased by over 250%. In 2013 over 3,500 women had the procedure done and nearly 300 men.

The popularity of butt lifts is not only down to more procedures becoming available but also the affordability of cosmetic surgery across the board.

What is Butt Augmentation?

Changing the way your rear looks can be achieved in a variety of ways. Certainly the first thing you can try is exercise, particularly if you are carrying extra weight. But some people have specific problems that need to be addressed.

For instance, if you have a small rear and want it to be shapelier, you can undertake a non-surgical procedure that adds size and definition. If you have a naturally full bodied look and want your butt to appear slimmer, then fat transfer and liposuction could be the order of the day.

The concept of butt augmentation is not a new one but has gained popularity in recent years because of our obsession with celebrity bottoms. From Kim Kardashian to Iggy Azalea and Heidi Montag, trips down the red carpet have led many to covet a rear like their favourite star.

It’s not just the girls that are looking for the perfect backside, either. There are a few of men having their butts tightened and sculpted so they look buff on the beach.

Types of Butt Augmentation

The type of issue you have with your butt will generally determine the procedure. As you get older your butt can begin to sag because of gravity which can be a problem for some women. You might have recently lost weight and need to tighten things up or perhaps you want to add some shape and definition to an otherwise small set of buttocks.

Brazilian Butt Lift

Perhaps the most popular choice of cosmetic procedures in recent times, because of the celebrity endorsement, is the Brazilian butt lift – There is even a domain with its name (brazilianbuttlift.com). It’s also one of the most expensive, costing in the region of $5,000 to $6,000. This is a surgical procedure and it can be customised depending on the client and what effect they want to see. A mix of surgery and liposuction can be used to define the shape of the backside in traditional butt lifts, either adding or removing volume as needed.

The Brazilian butt lift is popular mainly because it is one of the less invasive surgery choices with smaller incisions made. Fat in the thighs and stomach can be removed and used to ‘plump’ up the butt area, creating a younger, firmer experience. One issue that it doesn’t address is the appearance of sagging skin which can be a problem if you have recently lost a lot of weight, though there are other procedures that can easily deal with this.

As with any invasive surgical procedure, there are risks involved and you must weigh these up before you decide to proceed. The benefits are that a lift tends to give a more natural look than other procedures and there’s less risk of rejection compared to implants.

Buttock Implants

If you lack definition in the buttock area and want a shapelier look, there is the option of having buttock implants. This is like a breast augmentation where silicone implants are inserted to increase volume. The implant is usually placed just below the gluteal muscle and above the area of the pelvic bone.

This will naturally involve a large incision as well as sutures and could cause you a considerable amount of discomfort before it heals. The scar is usually in the crease of the buttock cheeks at the top of the thigh so once healed it shouldn’t be noticeable.

According to research, the number of people choosing butt implants has increased considerably over the last few years. In fact between 2010 and 2011 there was a rise of 43%. This is probably a reflection of the development of new procedures as well as our growing desire to have the perfect bottom.

Body Contouring Injections

One other option, particularly if you only want minor changes to your butt, is to have contouring injections. The most popular product on the market for this is called Macrolane and it uses hyaluronic acid to plump up specific areas. Contouring injections are used for many parts of the body but have more recently been used for the buttocks.

An incision is cuinto the butt and the contouring gel injected. Unlike a butt lift or implants, this is not seen as a long-term solution and usually lasts for a period of 12 months before the effect dissipates. If you want to keep the effect going you will need to have top up injections.

Many people are choosing contouring injections because there is very little recovery process involved and the feedback from those who have gone down this route have been good to date.

Choosing the Right Cosmetic Surgeon

As you might expect, butt augmentation procedures require a considerable amount of expertise. Finding a good cosmetic surgeon requires a detailed period of research to make sure that they can deliver on your dreams.

An experienced surgeon will not only be able to carry out the procedure correctly, they’ll also help you deal with the recovery process to make sure you don’t have any problems.

For instance, in some Brazilian butt lifts, fat injected can be reabsorbed, changing the initial contouring. An experienced surgeon and his team will be able to make sure you don’t put pressure on the area for the first couple of weeks and that you wear a compression garment until you have fully recovered.

Butt augmentation is becoming one of the most popular cosmetic procedures available and it’s not just for those over the age of 40. Many younger people, unhappy with their looks, are increasingly prepared to do something about it and achieve the butt of their dreams.

Plastic Surgery Statistics in 2015 – a brief overview

In July 26 of the present year (2016), the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) posted their semester press release following the Global Survey Report on the growth of cosmetic and aesthetic procedures in the preceding year (2015). The report highlighted the key finding –the number of procedures increased over a million – in just that year (2015).

For this survey – over 35,000 plastic surgeons were contacted world-wide. The ISAPS in the only organization that has done such a wide covering survey, other official entities has performed other interesting surveys, but on regional or at most national scale.

Top Surgical Procedures in 2015

ISAPS - surgical procedures 2015

The top 4 cosmetic / aesthetic procedures remained the same ones of (2014), but there were variations in the rank. Breast Augmentation (#1) is now the most popular procedure – with almost 1.49 million breast enhancements done by the surveyed doctors during 2015. Liposuction lost the number its spot, to the Breast surgeries, and now follows close behind. During 2015, Liposuction was performed close to 1.4 million times in the world. The interesting fact here is that – while the increase in Lipo procedures was only 1.6%, the Breast augmentations increased much more – 10.4%.

The highest drop however was for Eyelid surgeries. In 2014 (1.427.451) Eyelid Surgeries were performed – at that time it was the #1 surgical procedure. In (2105) doctors the demand for eyelid surgeries decreased by 11.4 %, – the drop from 1.42 million t o 1.26 hasn’t been justified yet by the ISAPS.

Abdominoplasties – in #4 – had an incredible year (2015). An increase of over 11% in demand – had doctors worldwide performing close to 760k abdominoplasties (Tummy tucks).

Top Non-Surgical Procedures in 2015

ISAPS - non surgical procedures 2015
source (ISAPS 2015 report)

Here the ISAPS reports 5 top non-surgical treatments. The number #1 procedure, by large numbers, still is the Botox injections. Although Botox procedures suffered a 4.2% drop in the numbers, it is still by far the most demanded and performed procedure. In 2015 – over 4.6 million Botox treatments were registered by the surveyed physicians.  Hyaluronic Acid, the most popular substance used to treat wrinkles, was used worldwide in over 2.8 million interventions – and increased by 6.5 compared to the previous period. Two new treatments show in the statistics for 2015, Photo rejuvenation and Non-Surgical Fat reduction. These two types of procedures were trends in 2015 – a year in which their raise in popularity was tremendous.

Dominating Countries

The country with the highest number of procedures is the United States with 1.4 million surgical and 2.6 million non-surgical procedures. Brazil reported 1.2 million surgical and 1.1 million non-surgical procedures. Continuing the rank for the most cosmetic interventions are South Korea, India, Mexico, Germany, Colombia, France, and Italy. The United States has the largest number of active plastic surgery physicians with 6,500 followed by Brazil with 5,500 and China with 2,800. Numbers by country are evidenced in the report; however, some countries did not provide required updates this year

National US Statistics – Comparing the numbers to the ASPS

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons report “2015 Plastic Surgery Statistics Report”, shows similar result. Although the ASPS report only surveyed US plastic surgeons, there is no much difference in the order in the top surgical and non-surgical procedures.

Surgical (invasive) procedures in the US

reference (ASPS 2015 report)

As the worldwide results show – the national top 2 procedures are also Breast Augmentation and Liposuction. US surgeons saw an small increase of 5% for their liposuction patients, while the demand for breast enhancement procedures dropped a 2% which can be within the margin of error. For American patients – Nose reshaping (Rhinoplasty) comes as the 3rd most wanted procedure. In 2015 almost 218k nose cosmetic corrections were performed in north America – no noticeable change to the year before. Top 4 and 5 were eyelid surgeries (Blepharoplasties) and Tummy Tucks (Abdominoplasties), the usual patients of these procedures are mostly women in their late 30s starting their 40s.

Minimally invasive Procedures in the US

2015 top five cosmetic minimally-invasive procedures

There is no more consolidated number 1, than Botox injections. It has been and still is the most demanded cosmetic service for patients seeking to enhance their appearance. With almost no variation in the demand, compared to the year before (2014), Botox dominates absolutely the charts of noninvasive procedures. Over 6.7 Million interventions were reported by US physicians in 2015. The number 2 minimally invasive cosmetic procedure in the US during 2015 was the use of Soft Tissue Fillers – to correct wrinkles and lines in the face. Rounding up the list of procedures that correct the signs of aging in the face are the chemical peels. The 4th most popular cosmetic procedure is the removal of unwanted hair using lase. With just a bit more than 1.1 interventions, there was mostly no change between 2014 and 2015.

Breast reduction – 40% male patients

Of the reported 68 thousand patients in the US in 2015, 40% were men. About 27k breast reduction procedures were performed on male patients. Men seek to reduce excess fat or glandular tissue, mostly because they embarrassed by having chests of female appearance. The surgery to reduce the breast size in men is known as Gynecomastia correction.

Brazilian Butt Lift – an unstoppable trend

Procedures focused on enhancing the looks of the buttocks, were the fastest growing ones. On average every 30 minutes, physicians performed a butt reshaping. Butt augmentations with fat transfer (more popular known as Brazilian Butt Lifts) – increased by a 24% (14 thousand procedures). Although Buttocks implants are less demanded that augmentations by using the own patient’s fat, there was a 36% increase in their demand.

The cost of plastic surgery

Factors that affect the cost

Plastic surgery prices is a major factor that influence the decision of choosing surgeon A over surgeon B. The average costs of a certain surgical procedure (for a breast lift for example it can range between 3000 to 5000 USD). The cost of plastic or cosmetic procedure is divided into several fees like, the surgeon fee, another fee that the anesthesiologist charges (which is usually lower than that of the surgeon), garments needed for post-op skin thightening, medications, if you stay over night at the hospital or facility (this will be charged also extra).

Rodrigo Alves, a person who is now popular in social networks, has had more than 20 surgeries. These procedures have costed him close to 200k USD. He is now considering a hair transplant based on stem cell technology that might end up costing him over 7700 USD.

For a Liposuction the cost, besides the already mentioned factors, varies according to the areas treated. For example having fat removed from the abdominal area can cost you from 3000 to 7000 USD.

Surgeon’s Fee

This is determined by each plastic surgeon. The more demanded the surgeon is, the more experience he/she has, the more patients he has had, then the more likely that the surgeon will charge more for his work. This is natural, the professional values his work by what others expect from him/her.

The City/State

Usually surgeons in a high populated metro area charge more than surgeons of a smaller town. The demand and competition of valued doctors create a plastic surgery market with higher fees and costs. While in a less populated, rural area, where cosmetic interventions are less demanded the fees are lower in comparison.

Male Liposuction to Carve abs like a Spartan

Having abs like a Spartan is now possible without exercise

One of the new and exciting areas of plastic surgery, helps patients who are in good shape to advance to the next level. Through the selective elimination of fat around muscles and the use of a laser to carve lines, it is now possible to have a flat abdomen with a little excess fat. The surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia, and the recovery time is no longer than 2 to 3 days.

Abdominal etching – Defining the ab muscles

Abdominal etching is usually part of a liposculpture. Men liposuction can be done in two ways: with the definition of abdominal muscles or without this kind of carving. There are patients who want to make their bellies look more etched after a liposuction and for this special techniques are used to highlight the abdominal muscles.

Why would you define your ab muscles?

Athletic shapes are becoming more and more a striking beauty pattern in young people and adults, both men and women. For some exercise and diet does the homework, specially quick for those with the gift of the proper genes. While for some others, who are allergic to diets and specially exercise, this is a daunting endeavor and a torture. The accumulation of stubborn fat is an almost impossible target for some bodybuilders (not only the professional ones). Imagine you work out every day, and do at least 1 hour of cardio, have a toned body, have solid rock biceps and chest, but you still have that fat cushion obscuring your abdominal muscles. It is understandable that there might be some sort of Gym-frustration. For all these people, the answer to definitely unveil their abs is Liposuction with abdominal definition.

Abdominal Definition in men and women

It is important to understand that a male abdomen and a female abdomen are very different. Men attempt to have the famous “six-pack” in their abdomens. What guy would not like to have the shredded abs of Spartan soldier like the ones in the movie 300. But if this is done in a woman, the femininity of the body is lost. The abdominal definition of the woman should be more subtle and only the midline and lateral lines, without the presence of squares (six pack). This procedure can be done with conventional liposuction but in general may lead to better results with laser or ultrasound.

The solution: High definition Liposuction (Hi Def- SmartLipo)

To etch the abdominal muscles, cosmetic surgeons use a liposuction technique known as High Definition Lipo (known as SmartLipo Hi Definition) over certain areas as you oblique the center of the line between the straight and horizontal lines that form what is called the six pack.

The HiDef Smartlipo allows us to melt male fat that is different from that found in women. The Smartlipo produces lipolysis, which is the rupture (melting) of the fat cells – converting solid fat to a more liquid state, which is then sucked with other cannula. No method currently exceeds the results of Vaser Lipo including Laser or Laser Lipolisis.

The changes that are accomplished after the marking of abdominal or chest areas are very notorious and prominent. Patient end up looking as if they undergone intense military gym training for several months. If the patient also exercises after surgery then results are much more defined and edgy.

The rim area surgery depends only on that so great is the layer of fat in the abdomen in the lateral region. The same happens with fat in the lower part of the belly button. The improvement depends on how much fat can pinch fingers in that area. That fat is that we can remove. The marking of the abdominal and chest will depend on that later the patient starts an exercise program.

Reduction or Augmentation – How to change your breasts

Cosmetic surgery is a procedure that is specifically tailored to enhance beauty of patients by rectifying various flaws that arise from aging, weight gain and other health conditions. breast augmentation is one of the most popular surgical procedures in this category. Since its introduction in the medical fraternity, thousands of people have undergone it and achieve positive results. Learning facilities have also taken bold step to introduce medical courses that are specifically tailored to train surgeons on how to carry out this procedure carefully. Below are some facts to help you understand this form of cosmetic surgery smarter.

What is breast augmentation?

This is a special procedure that is specifically tailored to enhance size of patient’s breasts. It can be done using silicone implants or fat extracted from parts of the patient’s body. More often than not, patients who undergo this procedure have sagging breasts or little fat in sections certain sections of the breasts. Also, a small percentage of patients develop uneven gluteal muscles which in turn compromise the appearance of their breasts.

How is it done?

Surgeons make special incisions on upper parts of the breasts in a bid to introduce the silicone implants or fat tissue. This is done using technologically advanced equipment that are have been tested and proven to be effective in facilitating this process. The amount of time required to complete this project ranges between 2-3 hours but this is independent on the issue at hand.

Recovery Process

Just like any other surgical procedure, patients may experience some discomfort and bruising around the breasts. In most cases, patients are advised not to lie on their backs for two or three weeks after the surgery to achieve even results. Nowadays, there is an advanced compression garment that is tailored to control swelling and shorten healing process.

The incisions on the breast and areola

When it is the case of a breast lift (mastopexy) and or a breast reduction, the problem to overcome is the excess breast tissue area left. For the breast to be raised the skin that used to cause the sagging has to be cut-off.

This might be an considerable inconvenience to some women, since the change will leave scars. In some cases the scars are more noticeable (redish  – as a result of queloid tissue formation). This is totally dependent on the genetics and skin properties of the patient. No matter how much and how perfect the surgeon makes the cuts and readjusts the breast tissue, some patients will have scars in their breasts. The least noticeable scars are those around the areola, but if there is a cut below the areola in the actual breast there is a good change it will be noted. Be sure you understand this before the surgery and not after.

What are the risks attached to this cosmetic surgery?

Some of the mild risks and side effects attached to breast augmentation include bleeding, muscle and nerve damage. However, a professional and experienced cosmetic surgeon has the capacity to reduce magnitude of these risks especially if incisions are to be made around the delicate rectal area.

How to prepare for it?

Before undergoing this surgery, it is recommendable to consult a doctor who has deep understanding of your health condition to make informed decision. Also, consider the total cost of the surgery to make the necessary financial plans.

Bottom Line: breast augmentation is a safe cosmetic procedure that can enhance general appearance, posture and confidence of patients.
